NAMRIA conducts its first ever library exhibit
NAMRIA Events | Darlene Shane C. De Leon | 27 December 2022 | Print

In line with the celebration of the 32nd Library and Information Services (LIS) Month and 88th National Book Week, NAMRIA conducted its first ever library exhibit at the NAMRIA Fort Bonifacio Office Main Lobby from 21 to 25 November 2022. The activity was carried out under the leadership of NAMRIA Administrator, Usec. Peter N. Tiangco, PhD, through the agency’s Library and Documentation Services (LDS).

The exhibit, which followed this year’s LIS month-long celebration theme Mga Aklatan Bilang Kanlungan ng Karunungan: Tagapangalaga ng Kultura at Pamanang Lokal, aimed to create awareness of the role of libraries and information centers in protecting, conserving, and preserving local heritage and culture. The activity was also one of LDS’ initiatives as an institutional member of the Association of Special Libraries of the Philippines, Inc. (ASLP). ASLP helps its members manage their increasing roles while dealing with new challenges. It encourages its members to keep abreast of the latest library technology and innovation through attendance in activities such as national congresses and webinars.

The exhibit showcased some rare collections including the oldest Bureau of Coast and Geodetic Survey (BCGS) journal; and an annual report that documents the history of mapping in the Philippines during the American era and the establishment of the United States Coast and Geodetic Survey in December 1900. Other interesting library holdings displayed were old Philippine BCGS photographs featuring various occasions and replicas of some old Philippine maps. A short video presentation about the exhibit was also posted on the official NAMRIA Facebook page in order to promote the agency and its services to a wider audience.

Aside from the exhibit, LDS also conducted other activities such as the month-long posting of copies of the 32nd LIS Month banner at the gates of the NAMRIA offices in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City and San Nicolas, Manila; a book donation drive for the newly established Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Male Dormitory Library of Taguig; and the distribution of bookmarks to LDS clients.
