News & Event(s) | Vener Quintin C. Taguba, Jr. | 13 June 2024 | Print

Under the leadership of the National Mapping and Resource Information Authority (NAMRIA) Administrator, Usec. Peter N. Tiangco, PhD, CESO I, a series of information, education, and communication (IEC) campaigns on the NAMRIA Mojon Finder Mobile Application (NMFMA) were held from 20-24 May 2024 in 14 selected Barangays of the Municipality of Laurel and City of Tanauan, Batangas.

The objectives of the five-day activity were to raise awareness of NAMRIA's products and services and to optimize the recovery and protection of the NAMRIA Geodetic Control Points (GCPs) through the user-friendly NMFMA. This mobile app ensures efficient access to detailed descriptions and geographic locations of the GCPs, aligning with the agency's strategic thrust towards advancing open data sharing for improved geospatial information provision.

The two teams from the Geodesy Division-Mapping and Geodesy Branch delivered lectures on GCPs and conducted on-site testing of the NMFMA, which also served as the mobile app's pilot test. The teams, consisting of members Engr. Aila Leana T. Sampana, Dexter R. Alamar, and Edmir D. Licad for Team 1 and Engr. Hennessy R. Marohom, Engr. Ferdinand F. Fernandez, and Timothy Philippe S. Baluyot for Team 2, assessed each barangay's current level of awareness about GCPs through a pre-test, then discussed its significance with the 67 participants. The lecturers presented NAMRIA's roles and responsibilities while introducing the NMFMA as a tool to enhance the recovery and reporting on the status of the monuments. The participants were informed that the GCPs serve as reference points in the reference system for all surveying and mapping activities in the country.
