NAMRIA holds IGIF webinar for its employees
Trainings / Workshops | Jois Roueli O. Ferrer | 12 May 2023 | Print

NAMRIA held a webinar on the Integrated Geospatial Information Management Framework (IGIF) via Google Meet on 24 March 2023. The event, with the approval of NAMRIA Administrator, Usec. Peter N. Tiangco, PhD, was conducted for the agency's technical personnel and interested employees.

The webinar was designed to strengthen the awareness of NAMRIA employees on the agency's partnership with the United Nations Group of Experts on Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM). The endeavors of UN-GGIM include the development, integration, strengthening, and maximizing of geospatial information management; thus advocating the adoption of the IGIF to all UN-GGIM member states, including the Philippines.

Geospatial Information System Management Branch (GISMB) Director Febrina E. Damaso kicked off the program with her opening remarks. She expressed her hope for the improvement of the information management arrangements among government agencies, specifically on data access and sharing standards, among others, with the adoption of the IGIF. She said that the adoption of the IGIF will also achieve NAMRIA's vision of a geospatially empowered Philippines.

Ms. Rosal H. Dolanas, Chief of the Geospatial Database Management Division (GDMD)-GISMB was the resource person for the webinar. Her topics included the following: the economic impact of geospatial information and services; the Integrated Geospatial Information Framework—its objectives, importance, and strategic pathways; the United Nations-World Bank partnership; the IGIF country-level action plans and implementation examples; and the Philippine Integrated Geospatial Information Management (PIGIM). A question-and-answer portion followed shortly after the discussion.

In his closing remarks, Resource Data Analysis Branch (RDAB) Officer in Charge (OIC)-Director Benjamin P. Balais spoke of how much geospatial management has evolved over the last 25 years. He left this question for the participants, especially the agency's next-in-rank technical personnel: "What role does NAMRIA want to fulfill in terms of geospatial management?"

Ms. Rosalyn D. Sontillanosa, Information Systems Analyst III from GDMD-GISMB, served as the facilitator, and Mr. Erwin D. Famatiga, Media Production Assistant from the Geospatial Information Services Division-GISMB, technically supported the webinar.
