NAMRIA launches PH TIDES mobile app

NAMRIA, spearheaded by Administrator, Usec. Peter N. Tiangco, PhD, soft-launched the Philippine Tides (PH TIDES) mobile application on 16 March 2023. The event was virtually held and livestreamed via the Zoom and Facebook platforms.
 
Physical Oceanography Division (POD)-NAMRIA Hydrography Branch (HB) Chief Dennis Arsenio B. Bringas gave the opening remarks. He introduced the mobile app which he described as "a product of the agency innovation." He also cited the efforts, for the development of the app, of participating stakeholders, of the "committed team behind the technical and creative output," and of the NAMRIA management.

In his inspirational message, Administrator Tiangco said that the development and use of the PH TIDES mobile app "is consistent with the present administration’s eight-point socioeconomic strategy on enhancing bureaucratic efficiency through the use of technology, for a more responsive government." He spoke about the app's importance to users, "from fisherfolks, to sailors, to beachgoers."
 
The PH TIDES mobile app aims to provide a more convenient way to access predicted tides from several locations throughout the country. Furthermore, it seeks to improve the interest of the public in utilizing reliable tidal data and information; and provide a platform for easier tide visualization. The mobile application is currently in its Beta version and can only be downloaded through the link PH Tides.
 
The mobile application is a project initiated by HB and headed by its proponent, Lt May Anne L Javier along with POD Chief Bringas. A Technical Working Group (TWG) developed the application, with P/Ens Ashley Riz A Advincula from the Survey Support Division-HB and Mr. Mark Allan Jay C. Jumeras from the Geospatial Information and Communications Technology Division-Geospatial Information System Management Branch as the lead programmers. Other members of the TWG include Lt Dionesio C Gato, Jr, Lt Marlon E Estropia, P/Ens Lemuel John A Bagtas, Engr. Jan Bryan O. Navarro, SN3 Mark Angelo E Moraleda, SN3 Ian Gabriel M Barrozo, Mr. Michael Jayson S. Morata, Ms. Shelah A. Casais, and Mr. Bryan C. Ballesteros.

A question-and-answer portion participated by the Zoom attendees and Facebook viewers followed the discussion of the PH TIDES mobile app. The event was concluded with the closing remarks from the HB Assistant Director for Operations, Capt Jose T Arevalo, Jr.
