NAMRIA conducts GIS training for MMDA
Trainings / Workshops | Jeff N. Hunt MTE, LPT | 29 November 2022 | Print

NAMRIA, through its Geomatics Training Center (GTC), conducted two batches of online basic Geographic Information System (GIS) training for the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on 24-28 October and 07-11 November 2022. The training participants, comprising a total of 38 middle-level and technical personnel selected by MMDA, were from the different local government units (LGUs) within Metro Manila.

The GIS training is part of the MMDA project entitled Metro Manila Geographic Information System Database. The training participants are considered the designated representatives from the Metro Manila LGUs and other regional line agencies for the project.

The conduct of the online basic GIS training stemmed from a Memorandum of Agreement signed on 23 September 2022 by NAMRIA Administrator, Usec. Peter N. Tiangco, PhD and MMDA Acting Chairman, Engr. Carlo Antonio D. Dimayuga III.

The online basic GIS training sought to support MMDA in performing its planning, monitoring, and coordinative functions; and, in the process, exercising regulatory and supervisory authority over the delivery of metro-wide services, in partnership with LGUs in Metro Manila.

The training topics included map concepts, GIS overview, software installation, GIS functions application in data management, georeferencing and digitization, data editing, and spatial overlay and analysis. On the last day of the training, the participants were able to create a map layout of the National Capital Region as one of the required final outputs.

The NAMRIA training team was composed of Mr. Alvin F. Laurio and Engr. Hazeline Glace A. Ali-Cacapit as resource persons, with Mr. Marlon M. Mariñas, Ms. Yanirze C. Hobo, and this writer as the technical facilitators/assistants.
