NAMRIA conducts GIS training for NEDA central and regional offices

NAMRIA conducted a face-to-face technical event, through its Geomatics Training Center (GTC), at Wynwood Hotel, San Miguel Avenue, Ortigas Pasig City on 03-07 October 2022. A total of 33 central and regional staff of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) were given the privilege to learn and demonstrate what they learned on the use of Geographic Information System (GIS) technology.
 
A Memorandum of Agreement was made and duly signed by NAMRIA represented by Administrator, Usec. Peter N. Tiangco, PhD and NEDA represented by Usec. Carlos Bernardo O. Abad Santos of the NEDA Regional Development Group (RDG). During the opening program for the training, Dir. Remedios S. Endencia, Director IV of the Regional Development Staff (RDS), gave the opening remarks. Undersecretary Abad Santos gave his inspirational message wherein he encouraged what he called as the new breed of NEDA personnel to utilize the technology in their respective projects.

The resource speaker, Mr. Laurio, discusses GIS topics such as projection and map lay-out/creation.
 
The participants came from different backgrounds in terms of education and experience. The training topics included map concepts, the application of GIS software in data management, georeferencing of scanned maps and digitization, data editing, spatial-overlay and analysis, and map layout. The participants presented their map layouts on the last day of the training. RDS Assistant Director Cynthia Villena gave the closing remarks. The outputs served as templates for respective offices in connection with the regional development plan (RDP) of NEDA. RDP is a plan that reflects the socioeconomic agenda and strategic priorities in all regions, in support to the Philippine Development Plan’s overall objective of economic transformation for a prosperous, inclusive, and resilient society.
 
The training secretariat from NEDA was composed of Mr. Rosauro L. De Leon, Mr. Ezekiel G. Dichos, Ms. Eunice G. Gonzales, and Ms. Elaiza Grace G. Orlanes. The training team from NAMRIA was composed of Mr. Alvin F. Laurio and Engr. Hazeline Glace A. Ali-Cacapit as resource persons with Mr. Marlon M. Mariñas and this writer (also photographer) as the technical facilitators/assistants.
