NAMRIA donates library materials to Taguig City Public Library
Volume XXXIV Issue No. 45
By: Ron Airish V. Guanzon

Under the leadership of NAMRIA Administrator, Usec. Peter N. Tiangco, PhD, NAMRIA donated library materials to the Taguig City Public Library. The donations were turned over to the public library’s Officer in Charge (OIC), Mr. Joselito Carpena, Jr. on 03 October 2022. The activity was conducted, with the supervision of the OIC-Chief of the Administrative Division-Support Services Branch (AD-SSB), Atty. Jessie M. Racimo, through the NAMRIA Library and Documentation Section (LDS).

The Taguig City Public Library was previously awarded as the Most Innovative Library and Information Services, conferred by the National Library of the Philippines and the National Committee on Library and Information Services of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts. NAMRIA’s donations to the public library were given as the agency’s support to their partnership in promoting literacy to the community through the barangay public libraries.

The updating and maintenance of a library collection is a vital component of a library’s collection management system. As part of the management of the NAMRIA LDS, a process called weeding was conducted. NAMRIA LDS OIC Ms. Agnes G. Radam led the weeding process together with the agency’s library staff, namely, Mr. Ron Airish V. Guanzon, Mr. Michael Angelo V. Alabas, and Ms. Darlene Shane C. De Leon. The weeding process involves the screening of resources to identify and remove items that no longer fit the existing library collection. Thus, the collection’s timely and relevant information and services to its clientele are maintained and improved. The withdrawn library materials from the NAMRIA library collection were donated to the public library.
