Gender and Development | Maria Romina D. Pe Benito | 23 November 2020 | Print

NAMRIA is joining the 18-day nationwide advocacy campaign of the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) to end violence against women (VAW).  The campaign is observed annually from November 25 to December 12 as mandated by Proclamation 1172, series of 2006.  This year’s campaign has the recurring theme, “VAW-free community starts with Me.”  It enjoins everyone to pursue the common vision of a VAW-free community while highlighting what can be done to achieve such.  In accordance with Republic Act 10398 (2013), NAMRIA is also joining the annual commemoration on November 25 of National Consciousness Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC).

NAMRIA’s yearly observance has the approval and support of Administrator, Usec. Peter N. Tiangco, PhD and is spearheaded by the NAMRIA Gender and Development Focal Point System (NGFPS) led by its Chairperson, Dir. Rijaldia N. Santos, PhD.  The agency will have a virtual ceremony from 9 am to 11 am, on 25 November 2020 to officially start the 18-day campaign and for the commemoration of the national consciousness day for the elimination of VAWC.  Featured in the program are the welcome remarks with announcement of activities by NGFPS Chairperson, Director Santos; the inspirational message of NAMRIA Administrator Tiangco; and the showing of “Violence against Women throughout the Life Cycle,” a video developed by the ASEAN Commission on the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Women and Children.  The program will be emceed by Jeanevie T. Habitan and Jeffrey A. Quodala of the NGFPS.

The other featured activities of NAMRIA for the campaign are the distribution of GAD paraphernalia (e.g., face mask); the launching of the NAMRIA Kadaupang-palad Community; the viewing of relevant GAD/VAWC-related videos/films; the NAMRIA Kadaupang-palad Online Community Interaction; the NAMRIA Bayanihang Bayan Para Sa Bicol and Other Areas, a joint collaboration of the NGFPS with the NAMRIA Bayanihang BayanDesk, and the Organization of NAMRIA Employees for advocacy fund-raising activities to benefit typhoon-affected communities; the participation of employees in the NAMRIA webinar on GAD legal mandates, the DENR webinars on gender-fair communication and language and gender sensitivity orientation, and the NAMRIA inter-branch, on-the-spot online poster-making contest; and the NAMRIA GFPS year-end virtual Kamustahan, culminating activity.
