NAMRIA conducts Basic RS training for GIG personnel

NAMRIA, through the Resource Data Analysis Branch (RDAB), conducted a training on Basic Remote Sensing (RS) for the Geospatial Intelligence Group (GIG) technical personnel of the Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (ISAFP). The training was held at the GIG Office, ISAFP, Camp General Emilio Aguinaldo, Quezon City on 05-09, 13-16, and 20 August 2019.  The 20 participants were from the different units of the GIG.

The training program, which was composed of ten half-day sessions, aimed to enable participants to understand the process of image interpretation and mapping. The program utilized lectures, hands-on exercises, and pre- and post-tests to guide the participants and enhance their knowledge and skills on basic remote sensing and related mapping activities.

The topics presented included the following (1) Introduction to Remote Sensing; (2) Fundamentals of Remote Sensing; (3) Image Processing: Layer-stacking, Pan-sharpening, Spatial and Spectral Sub-setting, Mosaicking, Radiometric Correction, Atmospheric Correction, and Geometric Correction; (4) Image Classification: Visual Image Interpretation; (5) Digital Image Classification: Unsupervised Classification, Supervised Classification, Object-Based Image Analysis, and Artificial Neutral Network; (6) Accuracy Assessment; (7) Basic Cartography; and (8) Topographic Mapping Process.  The presentations were followed by open forum sessions.

The RDAB and the Mapping and Geodesy Branch (MGB) provided resource persons for the training.  RDAB was represented by the following: Chief Sylvia L. Esperanza, Engr. Raul T. Magabo, and Geologist Bonifacia B. Daet of Land Resource Data Analysis Division (LRDAD); Foresters Cristina M. Montoya, Merlyn S. Soriano, and Noel C. Daus of Geospatial Integration Division; and Engr. Solita O. Castro of Physiography and Coastal Resource Division.  MGB was represented by Engr. Jane V. Roque and Ms. Teddy Gal B. Bisenio both from Cartography Division.  Mr. Cornelio S. Tolentino and Mr. Christian Joe J. Soliven of RDAB acted as facilitators for the event.
