BRP HYDROGRAPHER PRESBITERO conducts two-week hydrographic survey cruise in the West Philippine Sea

NAMRIA’s survey vessel BRP HYDROGRAPHER PRESBITERO spent the last two weeks of May 2019 conducting hydrographic survey in the Kalayaan Island Group.
 
BRP HYDROGRAPHER PRESBITERO deploys a survey skiff in

The hydrographic surveys were conducted in the vicinity of Pag-asa Islands composed of the Pag-asa Island and the adjoining sandbars, as well as the waters surrounding Likas Island.

The collected oceanographic and bathymetric data will be used to update the nautical charts and publications that will help in ensuring the safety of navigation in the Kalayaan Island Group.  These data will also be used by the government in marine environment protection and for other purposes.

BRP HYDROGRAPHER PRESBITERO is under the command of Cdr. Jose T. Arevalo, Jr. and crewed by 12 hydrographers and 29 enlisted personnel.  The survey vessel has been undertaking hydrographic surveys in the area every year as part of the inter-agency marine scientific research in the West Philippine Sea.
