Hydrography Branch conducts Seminar-Workshop for Hydrographic Survey Officers

The Hydrography Branch (HB) of NAMRIA conducted the Seminar-Workshop for Hydrographic Survey Officers, which was held in SBMA, Olongapo City from July 13 to 14.

HB Director, Commodore Jacinto M Cablayan opened the seminar-workshop by sharing his experiences as a commissioned officer. He reiterated to the participants the importance knowledge transfer from senior officers to junior officers.
 
The seminar-workshop aims to update NAMRIA commissioned officers on the latest policies, plans, and projects of NAMRIA. It also aims as a venue for knowledge sharing between hydrographic officers.
 
DA Jose C. Cabanayan and Ms. Lorelei Peralta of the Planning and Policy Division discussed about the current plans and programs of NAMRIA.

DA Efren P. Carandang discussed about convergence towards a geospatially empowered Philippines. He showed some success stories of convergence within the Philippines and in the international arena. He reiterated about the importance of convergence and how it will improve NAMRIA as a whole.
 
Lt Lorena Jasmin D Lerio updated the participants on the improvement and challenges of the procurement process within the Hydrography Branch.
 
On the second day of the seminar-workshop, Assistant Director for Operations, Capt Herbert L Catapang, discussed about NAMRIA’s Memoranda of Agreement and Memoranda of Understanding with government agencies and international bodies such as the Philippine Ports Authority, Korea Hydrographic Oceanographic Agency, PHIVOLCS, DENR-Manila Bay Coordinating Office, SBMA, and the United Kingdom Hydrographic Office.

Cdr Sheilon T Cadaoas discussed about the IHO Assembly that he attended last April. Cdr Rosalino C Delos Reyes then discussed about the programs of the East Asia Hydrographic Commission (EAHC).
Lastly, Physical Oceanography Division Chief Mr. Dennis A. Bringas and Engr. Henry A. Coldes of the Nautical Charting Division discussed about the programs of their respective divisions.

LCdr Carter S Luma-ang moderated the two-day workshop activities. The workshop produced proposed process flows for the planning of hydrographic surveys and installation of current meters. It also produced problem analysis and Objective Tree regarding the unmet targets and underutilization of funds of HB.
 
The workshop outputs will be submitted to the management and will be used as inputs for planning and strategies of the Branch.
