2016 NAMRIA New Year's Call

Bagong Taon. Bagong pagasa. NAMRIA officials and employees, headed by Administrator Peter N. Tiangco,held its traditional New Year’s call at the NAMRIA grounds on 04 January 2016. The event was held after the first flagraising ceremony of the year which was hosted by the Support Services Branch with Ms. Concepcion A. Bringas, Chief of the Administrative Division, as emcee.

The event featured the message of Administrator Tiangco, the oath taking of newly appointed employees, and an exchange of New Year greetings. 

In his message, Administrator Tiangco highlighted the following significant accomplishments of the agency for 2015: (1) NAMRIA and other key agencies were commended and congratulated through the passing of House Resolution No. 174 for their valuable contributions towards securing Philippine ownership of the Benham Rise Region, and other notable accomplishments involving the country’s maritime zones; (2) NAMRIA’s passing the fifth surveillance audit for continued certification under ISO 9001:2008; (3) Hosting of the 12th East Asia Hydrographic Commission wherein chairpersonship was turned over to Malaysia; (4) Co-chairpersonship, along with Jamaica, of the working group for the United Nations Global Geospatial Information Management for Asia and the Pacific on Disaster Response; (5) NAMRIA’s continued representation for the Philippines as Chair of the United Nations Group of Experts on Geographical Names Asia South-East Division; (6) Commissioning of two new hydrographic survey vessels, namely, BRP Andres Hizon and BRP Cayetano Palma; (7) Completion of the project to produce the NAMRIA Quality Management and Operations Manual; (8) Continuing uploading of map layers to the Philippine Geoportal; and (9) Placing first in the “DENR Got Talent 2015.”

For 2016, Administrator Tiangco asked for the support and hard work of everyone especially for the following activities: (1) Production of large-scale topographic base maps and other derivative maps under the Unified Mapping Program; (2) Modernization of the National Geodetic Reference System through its alignment with the International Terrestrial Reference Frame (ITRF); (3) Continuing mapping and assessment to update environment and natural resources data on land cover, coastal resources, low-lying areas, and land classification; (4) Compilation and updating of nautical publications; (5) Continuing implementation of the Philippine Geoportal Project; (6) Provision of technical assistance to DENR and Congress for drafting of house bills; and (7) Implementation of the agency’s organizational development programs such as employee engagement, strategic performance management system, competency-based system, and human resource development strategic plan.

Administrator Tiangco further expressed his optimism for 2016 by saying, Kung tayong lahat ay magkakasama, kung tayong lahat ay kikilos, walang mga trabaho within our areas of expertise na di natin kayang gawin. The event ended with free breakfast for everyone.
