Director Belen attends 20th UNRCC-AP and 4th UNGGIM-AP in South Korea

Director Ruel DM. Belen of the Mapping and Geodesy Branch (MGB) attended the 20th United Nations Regional Cartographic Conference for Asia and the Pacific (UNRCC-AP) and the 4th United Nations Global Geospatial Information Management  for Asia and the Pacific (UNGGIM-AP) held on 05-10 October 2015 at the International Convention Center, Jeju Island, Republic of Korea.

Representing the country,  Director Belen was one of the presentors in the UNRCC-AP conference.  He presented the topic Disaster Risk Management entitled “Mapping of the Typhoon Haiyan-Affected Areas in the Philippines using Geospatial and Very High Resolution Satellite Images.”  He pointed out the participation of NAMRIA as the national geospatial agency of the government that produced the topographic base maps of the disaster-stricken areas for use of different agencies in the rehabilitation of the affected cities and municipalities.
The UNRCC-AP is held every three years in different countries around the Asia Pacific Region, starting in  1955.  The primary objective of the conference is to provide a regional forum where government officials, scientists, and experts from Asia and the Pacific and other regions meet to address the common needs, problems, and experiences in the interrelated fields of surveying, geography, cartography and mapping, hydrography, remote sensing, land/sea and geographical information systems and environmental protection, including educational and training aspects, scientific and technological requirements, and the implementation of issues and benefits.  
The conference was hosted by the National Geographic Information Institute of the Republic of Korea and organized by the United Nations Regional Cartographic Conference for Asia and the Pacific and the United Nations Global Geospatial Information Management for Asia and the Pacific.
