NAMRIA GFPS holds webinar on work-life balance during COVID-19 pandemic

With the growing focus on mental health and wellbeing at the workplace, the NAMRIA Gender and Development Focal Point System (GFPS) held the webinar, Work-Life Balance during COVID-19 Pandemic, on 11 March 2021.  The webinar is part of the monthlong activities of the agency for the 2021 National Women’s Month Celebration (NWMC).  This year’s NWMC slogan, Juana Laban sa Pandemya, Kaya!  is about the challenges and opportunities of the COVID-19 pandemic to women, including the capabilities to handle demand for work and personal aspects.

Ms. Arlene B. Brillantes, Chief of Geospatial System Development Division-Geospatial Information System Management Branch and NAMRIA GFPS Vice Chair, formally opened the webinar.  In her opening remarks, she acknowledged the challenges and opportunities faced by women during the COVID-19 pandemic.  She also noted the importance of the webinar in contributing strategies for all NAMRIA employees to achieve work-life balance.
 
Ms. Liezl Rillera – Astudillo, MS Psych, RPm, LPT served as the resource speaker for the activity.  Ms. Rillera-Astudillo talked about work-life fit, which she defined as the integration of work and personal life aspects that contributes to the overall wellbeing of a person.  She emphasized the need to reframe existing beliefs by accepting the current situation in order to attain work-life fit during the pandemic.  She said that doing so will help workers better understand the importance of work-life balance.  Near the end of her talk, she mentioned doable actions for sustaining relationships and improving mental health and wellbeing, which she said are the two main strategies towards adapting to the new normal.  Examples of the doable actions include involving family members in decisions and routines, seeking help when needed, and working on mindfulness.
